Most people who visit the Bahamas spend their time in Nassau, Paradise Island and Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. Here are five spots only native Bahamians will know about.

Adelaide Village and Carmichael Village are located at the southern tip of New Providence Island. Both villages were set aside circa 1831 to be occupied by African slaves. Residents are always eager to assist visitors with fishing, swimming and boating needs and to offer samples of Bahamian dishes not often included on establishment menus. Often frequented by celebrities, Caves Beach is located just a few miles from Nassau’s Pindling Airport. This quiet beach was a filming location for “In To The Blue.”

The southernmost island, Inagua, situated 55 miles west of Cuba, boasts a Morton’s Salt plant. The Bahamas National Park is a breeding and nesting haven for flamingos as well as a sanctuary for exotic parrots and the Bahama Woodstar hummingbird.

Cat Island is the birthplace of actor Sir Sidney Poitier. Located on the island is Mount Alvernia, the highest elevation (206 feet)in the Bahamas. It is worth the trek to the top to visit a monastery hand-built by a Franciscan priest using pebbles and rocks found on the island.

Bahamas is a country composed of many different islands. Each island has something unique and exquisite to offer to its visitors. This includes fine dining.
Most of these (although not all) are, of course, found in the capital city of Nassau. For example. Cafe Matisse is small restaurant set against a romantic backdrop.
The next couple great Bahamian restaurants are found in Freeport. The Coral Reef Beach Bar is the first and probably the more popular of the two. Here people come for a laid back atmosphere, great conch salads and a kalik. Cafe Breeze is similar but more expensive than the latter and is more known for a family atmosphere.
The Rainbow Inn, found in Eleuthera, is better known for its mouth watering breakfast meals while the Santanna’s Grill in Great Exuma is the perfect spot for large dinner meals. A more laid back place in Great Exuma is the Chat N’ Chill where the bar and family atmosphere are mixed.
The Grand Bahama Island also features bars and grill for those who are interested with their famous Bahama John’s Seafood-N-Rib Shack. And for a less touristy place, the Sip Sip bar and restaurant is famous is Harbour Island.
The next two restaurants are must-see in Freeport (again). The Cindy’s Roti Hut and Margarita Villa are very popular with the younger crowd and become very busy during the spring break weeks.

Vacation overseas can be very expensive, but there are always loopholes in everything to find some great deals. When you are vacationing in the Bahamas, there are some great ways to save money so you don’t need to donate an arm and leg for costs.

A good first step is to plan your trip way ahead of time. Usually, if you plan your trip in the off season or a few months ahead before your scheduled date, you’ll be able to find some of the best rates as far as flights are considered. All the while, make sure that you take into consideration hotel costs.

Also, if you just want to stay in the Bahamas for a couple days, a cruise might be the way to go. You could just go to somewhere like Florida, and check out the Bahamas. It’s also a great way to do some sightseeing of other islands, which is a trip within itself.

Also, make an itinerary. If you are going at a certain date, see if there are any free local things going around. A festival called Junkanoo is really popular in the Bahamas, take in the sights, food, and culture to save money.

When going to the Bahamas first you have to decide how to get there. Obviously the only way to get there is by plane but you have to decide which airport, first class or economy flight, and etc. When packing for the Bahamas make sure to check with your local airport on what you can and cannot bring due to the strict airport policies. Before you go you also need to book a hotel. There are several options for lodging here. There are your basic hotels, your family friendly hotels, and also your all inclusives. Depending on if your taking your children with you the all inclusive is usually the best route to choose. Once you get there some of the things on the water you might want to try are scuba diving, water sports, fishing, sailing, and checking out the crystal clear beaches. Some of the on land activities consist of hiking, tours, birding, gaming, and more. Some of the things to expect when visiting the Bahamas are high tempatures, crystal clear water, and tourist attractions. So when thinking about taking a trip to the Bahamas remember its a once in a life time expierence you shouldnt pass up.
